Metro North Hospital and Health Services (MNHHS) is currently inviting applications for a male Consumer Representative to join the Steering Committee for the Enhancing Mental Health Care for Families in MNHHS project.

Purpose

MNHHS have recognised that until now there has been limited focus on identifying and meeting the specific needs of fathers, as woman-centred care has continued to be the main approach in all areas of maternity care.  The benefit of involving consumers and community representatives in health care planning, delivery and review of services is valued by the MNHHS.  The aim of the above project is to improve services to better prepare, value and support fathers/partners for the transition to fatherhood/parenthood.

Who is this for?

This opportunity would be suited to men who are fathers with recent experience (less than 15 years) in engaging with services in maternity care during their partners pregnancy and birth.

The role of the Consumer Representative is to attend monthly Steering Committee meetings where they will participate in discussion and provide advice on project outcomes relating to:

  • Engaging with fathers during their partners antenatal visits, labour and birth and the postnatal period.
  • Providing education resources and information for fathers to assist them with preparing for fatherhood
  • Identifying when fathers are experiencing mental health challenges and referring them to appropriate services for assistance as required.

Time and Location

The monthly steering committee meetings for this short-term project (completing in mid- November) will be held within the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and are scheduled for one hour. It would be highly desirable if the consumer would be able to attend in person for the 18 July meeting. 11.30 – 12.30

Teleconferencing facilities are available which would enable the person to call in for the ongoing monthly meetings if unable to attend in person.

Remuneration and Support

Consumers will be offered a standard payment of $50 per meeting, travel mileage up to 100 kms, and car parking voucher for Cornerstone Car Park, in line with the MNHHS Partnering with Consumers Procedure.
